The Evolution from MySQL to MariaDB

Being a database vendor means being in a very crowded marketplace. There are so many out there, doing a plethora of different things. How do you stand out in the midst of that crowd? MariaDB, a relational, transactional and open source database created by the original developers of MySQL, does it by layering a modern architecture on a traditional SQL foundation.

Chief Marketing Officer Franz Aman explains in this video with ActualTech Media’s David Davis how MariaDB is robust enough for mission-critical applications, but small enough to be deployed in containers and cloud-native development scenarios.

In the next video, Aman talks about the migration path from Oracle to MariaDB, and the top reasons customers are moving from proprietary Oracle to an open source solution to meet their needs for a lighter-weight database that can be used with things like microservices architecture.
